Bits, Bytes & Colors 2004

On the 17th and 18th of April, the annual Software/Hardware Exhibition and Competition was held at Bahria University,
Islamabad. It was a result of the combined efforts of BACSAP student members and volunteers. It was comprised of the
usual list of events, yet a new and colorful addition was Cyber Olympics.

The Chief Guest for the opening was Mr. Adil Rauf who is the Sales Manager at Nortel Networks.

A total of 25 Universities/Institutes from all over the Pakistan took part in the two-day event, a number far larger than
before. Large number of companies and vendors had set up stalls as well as sponsored the event. A variety of food stalls sparked the interest of the people.

The chief guest for the closing ceremony was GM (nationwide) of Instaphone, Mr. Sikander Naqvi.

Brain Storm Exhibition & Competition

Brain Storm 2004 took place from 26th to 28th April at Pearl Continental, Peshawar for the second time. All major hardware and software vendors participated in this exhibition. It also included a software and on spot programming competition. Universities from all over the Pakistan participated in this event, our own university being one of them.

Prize money was arranged by a Canada based college of Information Technology who awarded scholarships worth 5000 USD. By the grace of God, students from Bahria University bagged many prizes. Chief Minister Durrani graced the award ceremony and gave away the prizes to the winners.

IT Expo at Marriott (10th - 12th May 2004)

The 20th IT & Telecom Expo was held at Marriott Hotel Islamabad from 10th to 12th May. The Computer Society of Pakistan (CSP) organizes this event annually in all major cities of the country. Intel, AMD, Compaq, Inbox and almost all big hardware companies were present. The exhibition had eye-catching gadgets placed on different stalls such as Laptops, PDAs, Cameras, and Sound Systems etc. But the expo was unable to attract many people here in Islamabad, as it had little to offer. Other attractions included lucky draws, low-priced magazines and music played on different stalls.


Network Security

Bahria University, Pakistan arranged a series of seminars on the hotly debated topics of Network Security by USA based Dr. Roshan. Seminars were held on the 30th and 31st of March at the Islamabad campus which was a continuation of what Dr. Roshan has been conducting in Pakistan, the first one being held in Bahria University's Karachi campus.

A seminar on "Robotics" was held on the 27th of May. It was merely a marketing project, which only contained the details
about the products. The presentation was given by Air Cmdr. M. Asif Ali Khan who has setup a robotics lab at our neighboring
Air University. A live demo was given showing the working of robots, which can perform different tasks such as cleaning a table,
climbing a wall etc. At the end Mr. M.A Khan asked the Mr.Asif Ali Khan to provide the necessary details in order to setup a lab
here, similar to Air University.

Zabvision (6th, 7th June 2004)

SZABIST (Shaeed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology) has four branches situated in Dubai, Karachi, Islamabad and Larkana. The student society of SZABIST organizes an all Pakistan IT Event every year with the name 'Zabvision'. This yeah Zabvision took place on 6th and 7th of June at the National Library of Pakistan in Islamabad. The two day event included competitions like Quiz, Software, Speeches, IT Posters and seminars by professionals from different fields. Exhibition also displayed Pakistan IT DIVA industries in the form of IT stalls. The chief guest of opening ceremony was Dr. Atta ur Rehman, chairman HEC while the closing cermony was attended by Dr. Mayuddin, Chief Executive Productivity Department of Pakistan.


Considering the current market trends and to provide the students of final semesters some assistance in finding a good place in the IT industry, a workshop was being held at Bahria University Islamabad campus from 28th to 30th of June. The key objective of this workshop was to introduce the students with latest trends in Database Management Systems and to prepare them to be able to work with the latest tools like Oracle. A large number of students were present during the three days, who were very keen to learn. Certificates of attendance were awarded to them at the end of the workshop.
